Description:

Lancer 30mg Capsule is a medicine that reduces the amount of acid produced in your stomach. It is used for treating acid-related diseases of the stomach and intestine such as acid reflux, peptic ulcer disease, and some other stomach conditions associated with excessive acid production.

Lancer 30mg Capsule is also used to prevent stomach ulcers and acidity that may be seen with the prolonged use of painkillers. It belongs to a class of medicines known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). This medicine should be taken one hour before a meal, preferably in the morning. The dose will depend on your underlying condition and how you respond to the medicine. You should keep on taking it as prescribed even if your symptoms disappear quickly. You can increase the efficiency of the treatment by eating smaller meals more often and avoiding caffeinated drinks (like tea and coffee), and spicy or fatty foods.

The most common side effects observed with this medicine include nausea, headache, flatulence, and diarrhea. These symptoms are generally mild but if they bother you or do not go away, consult your doctor. Long-term use of this medicine may lead to an increased risk of side effects. For instance, using this medicine for more than 1 year may increase your risk for bone fractures, especially with higher doses. Talk to your doctor about ways to prevent bone loss (osteoporosis), like taking calcium and vitamin D supplements.

Before taking this medicine, you need to tell your doctor if you have severe liver problems, are taking medicines for HIV, have ever had an allergic reaction to similar medicines in the past, or suffer from bone loss (osteoporosis). Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also consult their doctor before taking it.

Taking a large amount of alcohol can increase acidity and cause acid reflux in the food pipe causing heartburn. This would decrease the effect of this drug and can aggravate your underlying condition.

Pregnancy interaction:

Lancer 30mg Capsule is probably safe to use during pregnancy.Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effect on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. Please consult your doctor.

Expert advice:

Inform your doctor if you do not feel better after taking it for 14 days as you may be suffering from some other problem that needs attention. Lancer can decrease magnesium levels in blood. Get your magnesium levels checked regularly. You may need a magnesium supplement or need to discontinue your medicine. Inform your doctor if you are suffering from osteoporosis as Lancer can weaken your bones by decreasing calcium levels in blood. You may need a calcium supplement, preferably calcium citrate. Lancer is a well-tolerated medicine and provides relief for a long time. It may take a few days to show its effect. You can take an antacid for a quick relief during this time unless your doctor has asked you not to use them. Once you start feeling better, do not stop taking your medicine. Take it for the duration as advised by your doctor

What are the side effects of Lancer use in infants? : Use of Lancer in infants (children < 1 year of age) may commonly cause diarrhea, constipation, stomach upset, and flatulence. It may make infants irritable and inconsolable and difficult to sleep. Long-term use may cause inflammation of the pancreas, irritable colon, stool discoloration, growth of fungus in food pipe, stomatitis, abdominal swelling, mucosal atrophy of the tongue and decrease absorption of vitamins and minerals. Some may have severe allergic reactions also.|Can I take Lancer with clopidogrel? : Lancer can be safely taken with clopidogrel. No clinically important changes in the action of clopidogrel have been seen when Lancer and clopidogrel are used together.|How is Lancer given through the nasogastric tube? : Open the Lancer capsule and empty the granules into a syringe. Mix the contents with apple juice in the syringe and attach it to the nasogastric (NG) tube and give directly into the stomach. Once given, flush the NG tube with more apple juice to clear the tube.|Does long term use of Lancer is associated with side effects? : Patients taking Lancer for a long period of time (a year or longer) may have decreased calcium levels leading to an increased risk of fractures of the hip, wrist, or spine. It can also decrease magnesium levels when used for more than 3 months. Long-term use may also cause inflammation of stomach lining (atrophic gastritis). Take Lancer only at the dose and for duration advised by your doctor|Why does Lancer cause diarrhea? : Use of Lancer lowers the natural stomach acid which normally helps to kill bacteria. So, use of Lancer leads to overgrowth of the harmful bacteria which can cause diarrhea. This is known as Clostridium difficile–associated diarrhea (CDAD). Inform your doctor if you have loose stools many times in a day and for many days with stomach cramps and fever.|Does Lancer cause burping? : Burping also known as belching or eructations is a side effect seen with Lancer use. Other common side effects associated are nausea, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, and flatulence.|Is Lancer a CYP3A4 inhibitor? : No, Lancer does not inhibit CYP3A4, it inhibits other subtypes of CYP enzymes namely, CYP2C19 and CYP2C9. However, there are no significant drug-drug interactions because of this property.|Is Lancer safe to use? : Lancer is safe to use when taken at doses and for a duration strictly as advised by the doctor. However, there are some common side effects associated with its use includes nausea, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, and flatulence.|Why does Lancer cause a sore throat? : Sore throat occurs in less than 1% of the patients who take Lancer but the reason for the same is not known.|Can I use Lancer with antacids? : Lancer can be taken with antacids like aluminum hydroxide, magnesium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate. Take enough calcium and vitamin D to reduce the risk.|Does Lancer increase appetite (make you hungry)? : Yes, Lancer can increase appetite and make you feel hungry. This is reported to be an uncommon side effect seen with the use of Lancer.|What is the role of Lancer in the treatment of Hpylori? : Lancer is used along with antibiotics for the treatment of H.Pylori infection. It works by decreasing stomach acid volume and breakdown and washout of antibiotics leading to an increase in antibiotic concentration and tissue penetration. It also helps in the symptomatic relief by decreasing associated acidity, reflux, and heartburn.|Is Lancer a vesicant? : A vesicant is a substance which causes blistering and tissue injury. Lancer is not a vesicant. It is a proton pump inhibitor used for the treatment of acidity, heartburn, intestinal ulcers and stomach ulcers.|Why does Lancer cause weight gain? : Weight gain is reported in less than 1% of the patients taking Lancer but the exact cause is unknown. One of the possible explanation is higher food intake once the reflux symptoms are relieved. Lifestyle modifications such as proper diet and avoidance of overeating should be observed to avoid weight gain.|Can I take Lancer with ibuprofen? : Yes, Lancer can be taken with ibuprofen. Lancer can be used to prevent ibuprofen (painkillers) induced gastritis and stomach ulcers by decreasing the production of acid in the stomach. IBS is managed with a combination of antispasmodics (to relieve stomach pain), laxatives (to relieve constipation), and anti-motility drugs (to relieve diarrhea).|Can I take Lancer with aspirin? : Yes, you can take Lancer with aspirin.
