Torsinex 10mg Injection belongs to a group of medicines called diuretics. It is used for the emergency treatment of very high blood pressure (hypertensive crisis), as it reduces the blood pressure immediately. It also rapidly reduces the swelling (edema) caused by too much water in the body.
Torsinex 10mg Injection helps your body get rid of extra water and salt through urine. It is commonly used to treat people with excess fluid build-up due to heart failure, liver or kidney disease. It is injected into a vein under the supervision of a doctor. Your doctor may monitor your blood pressure after giving this medicine.
Common side effects of this medicine include headache, dizziness, dehydration, and decreased blood pressure. These are usually mild and disappear after a short time. Consult your doctor if they bother you or do not go away.
Before taking this medicine, let your doctor know if you have any liver problems. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also consult their doctor before taking it. Regular monitoring of kidney function tests and electrolyte levels is important while using this medicine.
It may reduce the potassium level in your blood so your doctor may ask you to add potassium-rich foods to your diet (such as bananas, coconut water, etc.) or prescribe supplements. Any medication that is advised by your doctor for the long-term treatment of your underlying condition should be continued even after this emergency injection.
- Uses / Indications: Torsinex 10mg Injection is used in the treatment of oedema and high blood pressure. It treats oedema (fluid overload) associated with heart, liver, kidney or lung disease.
Taking Torsamide with alcohol may have additive effects in lowering your blood pressure. You may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate.

- Torsinex 10mg Injection is probably safe to use during pregnancy.Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effect on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. Please consult your doctor.

- Torsinex helps removes excess water from your body and lower blood pressure. Take it in the morning with breakfast to avoid getting up at night to urinate. May cause dizziness in the initial days of treatment. Monitor your blood pressure after starting Torsinex, and notify your doctor if it hasn't gone down. Notify your doctor if you experience dizziness, tiredness, or muscle weakness that doesn't go away. Take potassium supplements or potassium-rich diet (banana, spinach, coconut water etc) as Torsinex can decrease your potassium levels and lead to dehydration. Requires routine blood tests to monitor your kidney function.

- Can Torsinex cause gout? : Yes, Torsinex can cause gout. It increases the blood uric acid levels by increasing its absorption from the kidneys which can cause a gout attack. Inform your doctor if you have hyperuricemia or a history of gout before taking this medicine. Use of Torsinex is contraindicated in patients with gout.|Does Torsinex raise your blood sugar levels? : Torsinex can increase your blood sugar levels. This can worsen your diabetes control and affect your blood and urine sugar tests. Inform your doctor if you are a diabetic before taking Torsinex.|Can I use Torsinex with spironolactone? : Torsinex can be taken with spironolactone. When used together the diuretic effect gets added along with maintaining the blood potassium levels. Torsinex is a loop diuretic and causes loss of potassium from your body while Spironolactone is a potassium-sparing diuretic which prevents the loss of potassium. |Does Torsinex cause diarrhea? : Diarrhea is a common side effect of Torsinex. However, allopurinol is not safe in patients with renal failure, so may need to be replaced with another similar medicine like febuxostat.|Can I use Torsinex in sulfa allergy? : No, Torsinex should not be used if you have a history of sulfa allergy or to sulfonamide group of anti-diabetic drugs.|Is Torsinex used for weight loss? : Torsinex can decrease weight by removing excessive water from your body. However, it is not used for weight loss in obese patients as it does not affect body fat.|Does Torsinex cause electrolyte abnormalities? : Yes, Torsinex can cause electrolyte abnormalities as it works by removing water and salt from your body. It can decrease the blood potassium, sodium, chloride, magnesium, and calcium levels and increase blood sugar and uric acid levels. It is very important to get electrolytes and kidney function tests done on a regular basis while you are taking this medicine.|Is Torsinex safe to use? : Torsinex is a safe drug if used in prescribed dose and for prescribed duration as advised by your doctor.|Does Torsinex cause hair loss? : Torsinex is not known to cause hair loss.
